This position is located in the Peri-Op unit at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. The incumbent practices as a Perioperative Nurse in the Ambulatory Surgery Unit and Post-Anesthesia Unit providing care for patients in the preoperative and postoperative phase of the surgical/procedure process. Patient populations include, but are not limited to those having: ENT, General Surgery, Genitourinary, Orthopedic, Podiatric, Ophthalmologic, and Endoscopy procedures. The Nurse II is responsible for a sustained high level of clinical practice through the use of the nursing process while working effectively with professional and supportive personnel who provide patient care. The nurse plans, organizes, and when appropriate, directs and supervises the activities of others to complete assignments in a safe and timely manner. The nurse demonstrates excellent communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships. Specializes in admission, preoperative evaluation and recovery from local, general and spinal anesthesia as well as evaluation of peripheral nerve blocks. Based on education, experience and competency the nurse may be assigned responsibilities as service leader, preceptor and/or charge nurse as well as coverage for the Pain and Pre-Anesthesia Testing (PAT) clinics. Functions as a resource for colleagues as needed. Assumes responsibility as a Charge Nurse.
