The primary purpose of the LPN is to perform assigned duties in a manner that promotes quality health care, positive customer service and the maintenance of an environment committed to serving the veteran. Performs under frequent guidance of the Nurse Manager or designee. This position is in Community Living Center (CLC), Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, Idaho. Duties include but are not limited to: Identifies emergency situations, reports, and initiates effective actions immediately. Complies with Nursing Service policy/procedure on administering medications. Utilizes the concepts and the guidelines of sterile technique. Utilizes nursing care procedures when providing patient care. Observation of IV solutions and patency of IV tubing. Meets the patient's needs for privacy. Identifies patients who require instruction about their care, or who need questions answered. Identifies patient/family emotional needs and provides emotional support, considering the needs of the patient, family, and/or significant others. Anticipates patient needs in the face of known stressors such as death, dying, surgery, and awaiting diagnostic test results. Promotes positive interpersonal relationship with patient, staff, family member/or significant others. Follows the CLC unit Standard Operating Procedures to include hourly rounding, post fall huddles, death protocol and restorative nursing. Incorporates the HATCH model into daily practice. Incorporates Safe Patient Handling techniques into daily practice. This includes but is not limited to ceiling lifts, limb slings, Sara plus and repositioning slings.
