This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The Medical Intensive Care Unit Staff Registered Nurse will provide specialized acute care for the critically ill adult patient 24 hours a day. assumes continuous responsibility for the development, implementation, coordination, maintenance and evaluation of the patient requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a wide variety of illnesses and injuries, including diagnosed or undiagnosed problems of varying complexity. Most frequent medical diagnoses treated include: Acute MI, CHF, dysrhythmia, DKA, COPD, septic shock, and GI bleed. Duties include but not limited to: Manages nursing care for a group of patients. Utilized team approaches to identify, analyze and resolve problems. Assesses, plans, implements, documents and evaluates nursing care accurately, appropriately and in a timely manner. Promotes and delivers care in a manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights. Takes action to avert or manage situations in a manner that meets the needs of clients in a safe/therapeutic manner. Acquires knowledge and skills to maintain expertise in area of practice. Participates in educational activities to improve clinical knowledge and enhance role performance. Initiates/participates in quality improvement activities that result in improved outcomes.
