The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the Inpatient Mental Health Unit provides direct care to a specialized population, with knowledge and skills for observation and documentation for both psychiatric and physical disorders. The LPN administers medication, treatments, educates patients and documents findings. Serves as a member of the treatment team, reporting significant observations. The LPN reports abnormal vitals, abnormal glucose results, behavioral concerns, emergent situations to the RN The LPN Inpatient Mental Health incumbent will perform the following duties: Proficient in initiating, performing and completing assigned duties in providing care: recognizes and considers emotional, cultural, spiritual, socio economic and age related factors when caring for patients Administers medications per established policies Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's condition from prescribed medications/treatments, promptly and accurately documenting noted changes, and reporting any deviations from normal to RN or MD Knowledge and ability to recognize urgent or emergent patient care situations, seek assistance of the RN and/or MD and initiate appropriate emergency interventions as directed Promotes an environment of respect for individual patient and family rights to privacy and dignity in all aspects of care delivery Serves as a preceptor in orienting, educating, and training less experienced LPNs Actively seeks out educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills, sharing new knowledge gained with other staff to improve and advance nursing practice. Maintain ACLS and/or BLS certification Work Schedule: 11:00 pm - 7:30 am Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
