The incumbent serves as the Nurse Manager, Ambulatory Care, Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Rural Mobile Health Unit of the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center. Nurse Manager Duties for Ambulatory Care / CBOC / RMU The position will work to ensure optimal patient care delivery in the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) and Rural Mobile Unit (RMU). Enters, approves, and manages employee leave and premium pay requests using VATAS; does this in a timely manner. Creates and posts employee schedules, makes updates and ensures accuracy of employee schedule using AccuStaf. Supervises staff in the CBOC/RMU setting; directs clinical work of nursing staff in support of PACT principles of care and toward meeting the care needs of Veterans, while maintaining ICARE values. Acts as a member of all applicable committees, work groups, tiger teams associated with activities that impact workflow or care processes within the CBOC/RMU teams. Implements process and programmatic changes as necessary to meet the ever-changing needs of Veterans and providers in the CBOC/RMU Setting. Ensure staff complete all required trainings (training fair, in services, TMS, etc.…) in a timely manner. Ensure process in place for yearly competency development and check offs for clinical skills with all nursing staff within the department. Works with all manner of other disciplines; frontline staff and leadership staff alike; to improve care processes and implement changes as they occur related to Veteran care received through the CBOC/RMU. Assist with the biweekly posting of staff schedule. Assist with the oversight of the annual leave schedule yearly. Monitor assignment of the departmental hand hygiene and report to infection control monthly. Assist with assignment of quarterly assigned Medical Record chart reviews Ensure quality measures and metrics are met, such as ensuring clinics start on time and patients are ready in the rooms and the flow of the clinics are always good. Clinical reminders are completed promptly and correctly with patients, so the provider can assess their patients with ease and efficiency. Assist with orientation of new staff members, to ensure the content of orientation is complete and through. Assist with administrative duties, such as filing competencies and forms in the employee folders. Monitors and rates employee job performance and provided feedback and ratings using appropriate processes (E Performance) for both Title 38 and Title 5 staff; these are completed in a timely manner consistent with HR and service level expectations. Assist with random interviews with patients during their care as they are waiting on provider or after their appointment is complete to see if there was anything else the CBOC/RMU staff could have assisted them with during their visit to improve patient satisfaction. Assist with planning and implementing process improvement projects for CBOC's/RMU; such as a GEMBA board process. Involve CBOC staff in unit-based processes to help facilitate change, improve efficiency, develop staff competence, improve morale and buy-in and overall to improve care processes within Primary Care that in turn benefits the Veteran. Assist with CBOC/RMU unit council process to improve shared governance. Help with routine service rounds and prepare for inspections for the department to ensure items are dated, clean and not expired. Also help keep staff up to date with VA directives and JACO standards. Act as the Patient Advocate Liaison for CBOC/RMU. Direct staff to review current SOP and MCMs and writing new SOP and MCM as needed for the department. Coordinate the completion of chart reviews to improve documentation, standardization of note tiles, use of templates, encounters for billing and workload captured. Complete Mapping/workload capture reviews of staff to ensure accuracy and deadline compliant. Facilitate use of space and space management at all CBOC's/RMU. Coordinate Active shooter/Active threat drills when approved for all CBOC/RMU locations. Ensure monthly alarm checks completed at all 4 CBOCs/RMU. Assist in planning, staffing vaccine clinics at CBOCs (flu, COVID). Act as a liaison for housekeeping issues. Collect/Enter work orders for CBOCs and follow up on completion. Write issue briefs for CBOC incidents when requested. Investigate incidents in JPSR for CBOCs/RMU when assigned. Participate in VISN HUB coverage meetings for any CBOC requiring this service. Hold monthly staff meetings and document/upload to Sharepoint. Responsible for the management of equipment on 5 EIL's (4 CBOC and RMU). Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 730am to 4pm. Frequent travel required in the position. Primary office location TBD; incumbent will work frequently in all CBOC locations; schedule to be set by AD/PCS, ACN and Incumbent.
