This position is located on our 9CS unit and encompasses components of the Restorative Aide, Activities Coordinator, Certified Nursing Assistant responsibilities. The Restorative Aide Specialist (RAS) will provide care for Veterans on Independence Hall. The primary purpose of the RAS role is to foster compassionate care, promote Veteran dignity, deliver a higher standard of dementia care, and to provide the best quality of life by engaging Veterans in meaningful activities. The RAS's role is essential to the Veteran, families and the interdisciplinary team. Requirements: Certified Nursing Assistant with a minimum of 3 years of experience Strong communication and leadership skills Restorative Care experience (Preferred) Experience in caring for people with Dementia (Preferred) Role: To serve as a role model, promote interdisciplinary communication, foster team work, and enhance the knowledge and skills of health care team members. Responsibilities include: Provide on-going program activities based on Veteran feedback/requests, partnering with therapies, providers and nursing staff while maintaining a safe environment. Creates, guides and leads individual and group activities to meet unique needs of Veterans on Independence Hall (9CS) Group social activities-daily walks (indoor or outdoor), movies, meal time Ordering, preparing food, meal time (toast, cookies, fresh bread) Exercise activities-active/passive range f motion, ambulation Coordinate volunteers to engage Veterans in activities Maximize and maintains physical and emotional wellness of Veterans Enhance/strengthen-apply/remove splints, prosthetics Provide one-to-one activities-reminiscing, music, board games, cards Organize leisure activities-arts and crafts, movie days, music, pet therapy Ensure equipment/devices are in proper working condition Communicates any adverse outcomes with nursing staff and medical providers Observes and documents Veterans participation and response to activities Participate in Interdisciplinary Care Rounds Participate and engages in Interdisciplinary Care Plan meetings Ensures environment is clean and free of clutter Follows care plan goals and explains and encourages Veterans to participate in the plan of care Attends off campus community outings Maintain, improve and/or enhance Veteran daily quality of life Encourage Veterans to participate in activities of daily living (ADLs) Assist when necessary with grooming, bathing, and meals Set up and coordinate grooming: haircuts, beard/mustache trims Provides hydration rounds to assist in the prevention of dehydration Utilizes evidence based strategies/interventions while caring for Veterans living with dementia Engage Veterans in memory activities to maintain/enhance healthy function based on their abilities. Utilizes non-pharm interventions/comfort care for palliative and end-of-life Veterans Promotes family engagement and interactive activities for Veterans focused on abilities based dementia, End of Life and Veteran preferences. Engages and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team members in Veteran preferences, diet, music, spiritual support, mental health concerns, and activities. Enhances knowledge and skills of health care team members Caches health care team members and teaches skills and techniques on Positive Approach to Care Provides education in Dementia care, Restorative techniques and unit activities to promote Veteran centered care. Is a leader in setting a positive example while promoting a Healthy Work Environment Collaborates with RN Case Manager, Management and the interdisciplinary team.
