This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The incumbent practices as a ICU/Step-Down/telemetry assistant clinical nurse manager who has 24 hour responsibility for the operation of a patient care unit/area in the Nursing Section of Patient Care Service within the Detroit VAMC. Provides leadership in the planning and implementing of care to patients in the medical center. These units specialize in providing care to critically ill veterans or intensive cardiac monitoring. The age of patients range from young adult through geriatric. Common diagnoses include post operative surgical cases, acute myocardial infarction, lethal dysrhythmias, respiratory distress and/or failure, acute gastrointestinal bleeding, sepsis, diabetic keto acidosis, acute renal failure and multi-system failure. The assistant clinical nurse manager (ACNM) demonstrates knowledge and competencies in critical care nursing such as hemodynamic monitoring, operates a variety of specialized therapeutic and life support equipment, early recognition of cardiac lethal dsyrthmias and the effective treatment of complex critical patientents. Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others. The Assistant Clinical Nurse Manager demonstrates performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of patients. The ACNM is responsible for the documented outcomes at the unit level. Program is defined as a substantial coordinated group of activities impacting patients and/or employees. The ACNM must demonstrate Lead and organize delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning. Use advanced clinical knowledge/judgement to promote staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluate outcomes. Systematically evaluate current practice, and formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise Guide, develop and support staff from a leadership perspective Use professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities Plan and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting priorities and prepare schedule for completion of work Evaluates the performance and competencies of subordinates Makes recommendations for appointment, advancements or reassignments of subordinates Provides mentoring, advice, counsel, or instruction to subordinate personnel on work and administrative matters.
