The RN serves as the Bar Code Medication Administration (BCMA) and Informatics Coordinator. The RN is responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, assisting with interviewing applicants, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. The BCMA and Informatics Coordinator actively develops and manages collaborative partnership with physicians and other clinicians. Duties include but are not limited to: Reports status and issues to management and Bar Code Resource Office (BCRO). Recommends local procedural and policy changes as appropriate. Disseminates information to end users on policies and procedures relevant to BCMA and the medication administration process. Participates in surveys and questionnaires as requested. Tests and verifies updates, patches, and new releases to BCMA and associated packages prior to activation. Facilitates training, installation, implementation, maintenance, and overall use of BCMA throughout the medical center. Provides user support to nursing, pharmacy, and other service lines by troubleshooting operational issues. Provides initial and ongoing staff assessment of ergonomics and usability issues as related to BCMA hardware and software. Plans and ensures initial and ongoing training for all BCMA users students, and temporary staff. Designs, develops, updates, and maintains training documents within the facility. Actively participating in the local facility and network multidisciplinary BCMA focus group. Maintains current facility enrollment in BCMA national and local mail groups. Logs and monitors Medication Administration Workstation tickets. Collaborates with Enterprise Vista Support (EVS) and local IT staff to resolve BCMA issues. Completing self-assessment guide and submit reports. Develops, implements, and monitors a performance improvement plan for the medication administration management process as it related to BCMA. Coordinates and implements of all new informatics patches as needed. Coordinates and schedules training for all nursing students. Maintains current manuals for all computer programs coordinated by this nurse. Troubleshoots and gives input on computer equipment needs for Patient Care Services. Maintains the BCMA packages in the test account for testing purposes. Other duties as assigned, including all functions as a RN.
