GENERAL SUMMARY: The Patient Care Technician/Unit Liaison (PCT/UL) is responsible to perform duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or Registered nurse in compliance with established process standards, structure standards and protocols of the assigned unit. The (PCT/UL) works in cooperation with all team members in an effort to accomplish departmental goals and objectives. The (PCT/UL) role is multi-disciplined. When assigned as a PCT, the primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost effective care. When assigned as a Unit Liaison, primary function is to perform clerical duties, provide professional service to our healthcare team, visitors and patients.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: When in the PCT role, under direction of the licensed nurse: Provision of Care Ensures personal hygiene and comfort care is delivered to all patients. Observes skin condition on all patients for potential skin breakdown and implements preventative measures per wound/skin protocol. Communicates changes in skin integrity to the licensed nurse. Responds to nurse/patient intercom system in a timely manner. Obtains vital signs per unit standard, reports abnormal findings immediately to the licensed nurse. Obtains lab specimens per hospital policy and procedure. Obtains blood glucose sample as directed by the nurse, reports abnormal findings immediately to the licensed nurse. Transports patients as directed by licensed nursing personnel. Provides direct patient care for catheters, tubes and dressing changes as directed. Discontinues foley and straight catheters per licensed nurse instructions and per policy. Notifies licensed nurse of problematic IV sites and discontinues peripheral IV sites per licensed nurse instructions. Discontinues nasogastric tubes per hospital policy as directed by the licensed nurse. Simple dressing changes Removes staples and/or sutures per hospital policy as directed by the licensed nurse. Demonstrates competency in the application and care of the patient in restraints under the direction of the licensed nurse. Acts as a communication liaison for the patient, family and interdisciplinary healthcare team. Demonstrates competency in all procedure within Scope of Practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served. o Child o Adolescent o Adult o Geriatric
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Unit specific competency must be met per the orientation pathway.
· Good oral, written, and communication skills.
· Must be able to continuously prioritize multiple duties.
· Must be familiar with medical terminology.
· Communication, interpersonal and basic computer skills required. Employee conduct must reflect that of Adventist Health System "SHARE" values.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
· High school graduate or GED required.
· Minimum of one year healthcare certified nursing assistant clinical experience preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
· Student in RN nursing program who has completed at least three hospital clinical rotations will be considered.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
· Current BLS required upon hire
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
· Current Florida certification as a nursing assistant preferred.
