The Atlanta Veteran's Administration Medical Center is recruiting for one Mental Health Registered Nurse Manager. Located on the 4th floor at the Atlanta VA Medical Center, 1670 Clairmont Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. The Inpatient Mental Health Nursing Nurse Manager will provide supervision and accountability for the 40-bed inpatient unit and will be accountable for the management of the nursing clinical area. Note: Must provide an email approval from current Supervisor authorizing to be on detail. Major Duties/ Service Line/ Reporting Structure: Service Line - Mental Health Nursing Reporting Structure - Reports to Chief Nurse, MH; Direct reports include RN staff, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Educator. The Inpatient Mental Health Nursing Nurse Manager will provide supervision and accountability for the 40-bed inpatient unit and will be accountable for the management of the nursing clinical area. Mental Health Nursing Leadership - ability to supervise, complete annual proficiencies, manage scheduling, time and attendance, performance reviews, addressing ER/LR and HR activities, MH operational leadership, MH performance improvement and quality oversight. The Nurse Manager's position is a critical position which provides 24 hour oversight of Unit/clinic operations to maintain compliance with the Mental Health mandates which includes monitoring of quality indicators (e.g., suicide ideations, depression, alcohol, tobacco, PTSD, MST, substance use disorders screenings and assessments, homeless, and etc.). The position is also instrumental in addressing family/resident concerns to maintain a high quality of customer service. Nurse Manager is responsible for nurse staffing, competencies, performance appraisals, and proficiencies. The Nurse Manager is also responsible for equipment management, environment of care compliance, emergency management, and communications. The Nurse Manager, on a whole, provides real-time information to the Mental Health Service Line, Nursing and Patient Care Service Line, and Facility leadership regarding onsite events, risks, and occurrences that may impact clinic operations and patient care. The Inpatient MH Nurse Manager also assists with developing and communicating performance improvement plans and action plans, as well as the outcomes of these plans related to SAIL, HEDIS, EPR, the Veteran Experience, PACT, and BERT. The Nurse Manager is the designated first-line supervisor, having supervisory authority, responsibility, and accountability for the 24/7 operations of the Unit, ensuring that subordinate personnel provide timely nursing care that complies with VAHCS accepted standards of clinical practice. This includes the authority to accept, amend, or reject the work of subordinates. The Nurse Manager has continuing responsibility for all the following functions: Responsible for direct supervisor of Unit staff. Responsible for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff and others Identify and analyze problems that effect/impede patient care and initiate their resolution. Responsible for patient care coordination and collaborates with other disciplines/departments to achieve positive patient care outcomes. Takes a leadership role in utilizing problem-solving methodologies to resolve system and/or process problems that impact patient care or staff performance at the Unit level. Serves as the Unit's subject matter expert. Uses sound clinical judgment in ensuring the delivery of care to the patient population on assigned area(s). Guides staff in the implementation of the nursing process in caring for patients. Implements policies and procedures in the area(s) and monitors compliance by staff members. Effectively managing Unit's resources to decrease waste and liabilities and/or improve efficiencies while maintaining or enhancing care and practice. Monitors workload throughout the tour and adjusts assignments as needed. Responsible for the interviewing process, staff selection, fact finding, counseling staff and evaluating staff performance. Offers feedback and solutions for patient safety and environment of care issues within the Unit area. Responsible for assessing educational needs to implement program or service practice changes. Develops and implements an education plan to meet needs for self and/or other staff on Unit. Monitor quality measures, staff education, performance evaluations, and MH Nursing deliverables (i.e., including addressing patient complaints). Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30AM - 4:00PM May need to work on alternate shifts and/or weekends based on the needs of the unit.
