The Surgery Desk LPN has the responsibility to attend to the secretarial and communication needs of the Surgery desk performing duties including answering telephone calls, computer functions, communication and coordination between staff members and other departments, and other functions related to maintaining good patient flow. The Surgery Desk LPN reports directly to the unit charge nurse. The Surgery Desk LPN is trained in the delivery of age appropriate care by hospital policy and performs assigned tasks in accordance with the hospital's philosophy, values, standards, policies and procedures.
Performs Clerical Duties related to procedures in Surgery
Answers telephones promptly and assists with inquiries from the Surgery waiting room.
Communicates with SPD to obtain case carts.
Communicates with scheduling department to schedule procedures.
Communicates with other patient units concerning preoperative preparation and transportation of patients.
Communicates with transport staff to arrange transportation of patients, specimens, blood products and other items.
Communicates with surgeons as needed concerning surgery patients.
Receives and processes verbal and telephone orders from physicians.
Completes and distributes the "on call" schedule.
Relays messages to appropriate caregiver in a timely manner and acknowledges response.
Supports the Nursing Plan of Care by completing other tasks requested.
Works efficiently and completes work in a timely manner.
Maintains tidiness of the work area.
Notifies the charge nurse of needed equipment and supplies.
Performs computer functions
Checks email regularly.
Obtains patient information from Meditech and other EHR software as needed.
Prints labels, facesheets and other patient documents as needed.
Enters work orders for maintenance, IT, and other services as needed.
Generates and edits forms and documents in Word, Excel and other programs.
The patient's rights to confidentiality will be maintained by all personnel
Handles all patient communication and documentation in a confidential manner.
Does not release patient information/records without following hospital policy.
